Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Vinod:
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your company, please;
From my childhood, I have a passion for technology & computer and My ambition was to become a software engineer. I completed my diploma in Information technology in 2008 and Engineering in 2011. I love keeping myself abreast of new technologies and software languages. When everyone learned new and easy languages I preferred to learn the complex programs. I choose to become a java developer when everyone chooses .net profile.
I’m a certified Java Developer from oracle. The openings are very limited for my profile but I’m very stubborn in pursuing my dreams. I didn’t forget to update myself with new trending technologies even While attending my interviews. That’s how I started learning web technologies and I didn’t know that it was going to change my entire vision.
I used to work on sample projects relevant to the technology which I’m learning and this helped me to groom myself to go to the next level. Once I get a confident I registered as a freelancer in one popular online portal and started looking for work – as there is a huge demand for this. After one month I got work and I completed it within 2 days when the estimated deadline is 5 days. The client was very happy and he started pushing more work to me. I also didn’t stop attending the interviews for “Java Developer” profile, now a few more languages added to my Cv and which helped me to pass the initial filtration criteria.
In mid-2012, I got a call from the technical head of one company who interviewed me long back and he said he wants to meet me in person I agreed to that and we met in a coffee shop over that weekend. He said he quit his job and planning to start his own IT company and asked me to join him if interested. He offered me a senior developer position considering my Industry ready knowledge in execution and passion towards IT.
I shocked “WHAT” Senior developer ?? are you serious? he smiled and said yes you deserve it. The offered package was also decent. We started working together and completed few projects successfully. After 6 months, many things changed in the company and it made me feel that somewhere the path towards my dream is deviating. I quit my job immediately and started freelancing again and gained a good number of clients in a short period. I got more work on the web development part. As projects are pouring in I understand the demand for quality service and it made me start webdoux on 1st Jan 2013. I registered it under “Proprietorship” and started providing the quality services to local customers. Our growth was exponential, hired employees and delivered the projects with 100% client satisfaction.
In 2014 we moved as a private limited company. I learned digital marketing from my brother and it helped me to open digital marketing services in webdoux. I started grooming myself in technology as well as digital marketing to provide complete 360-degree solutions to our clients.
Now we’re working with clients from startups to fortune companies. Our customers are spread across the globe and we earned it with our quality services.
I’m planning to open our product division in mid of 2020.
How do you find the industry/niche that you’re in?
Every business needs a website and there is a huge demand for it across verticals. Multiple players in the market offer similar services. I started webdoux with a passion where it fulfils the industry needs and helps the business to grow. I spent time researching and finding the right solution to each business verticals considering their pain points and this is the success of webdoux now. Webdoux has proven solutions to clients in the Automotive, Education & Food Industry which quantify Sales and conversions.
What gets you out of bed in the morning i.e. what’s your source of motivation?
My passion for technology and learning keeps me motivated. I didn’t start a business to make fast bucks.
What challenges/obstacles did you face in your journey so far?
When everyone wants a safe job and risk-free life I have chosen Entrepreneurship and started webdoux. I didn’t make much money in the initial stage as I put my passion in front. It was a very crucial period and my Mom and Brother helped me to overcome it. They are the backbone of me, they stood with me when everyone is on the other side. They are confident that I will achieve it someday and the day is not far. They motivated me to pursue my dreams.
What comes first for you – money or emotions?
I am an emotional person. Business needs to have emotions, not personal, obviously, but business ones like concern for quality deliverables, client satisfaction, targets & roadmaps, you planned & how you will achieve it, etc. Money is obviously the priority but I believe if your value creation process is right for others, the money will automatically come as an outcome of it. I take care of my clients and they take care of my business.
How do you handle the pressure and manage stress?
I believe when you do what you love you don’t get stressed. I open my laptop and start working. I even worked for 12 hrs in a single stretch and didn’t feel any pressure or stress. In our tech world, this is routine.
What is one strategy that you believe has helped you grow as a person/startup?
One thing that has always worked for me is ‘Client Experience’. Just take care of your clients and they will take care of your business. The strength of webdoux is we don’t have a marketing team to sell our service, its been 6 years now and still we are running a successful business without a sales or marketing team. Our business is grown to this stage with the help of our satisfied customers who spread our name across the globe.
In your opinion what are the keys to success?
Tech world is evolving fast! You have to keep yourself updated with the new technology and updates and this will help you to survive in the competition.
What advice would you give to someone starting?
Run behind your passion and you will be in a better place automatically.
Don’t focus primarily on money or investments but keep your focus on creating a sustainable venture & value creation.
I believe, rest things will automatically set with time. Also, if you are starting up a venture or need our services, feel free to reach out to us.
